BREAKING: LIN DAN ESCAPES, MOVES ON TO QUARTERFINAL VS. RIVAL LEE CHONG WEI
Men’s Singles Quarterfinals
Lee Chong Wei (Malaysia) vs. Chou Tien Chen (Chinese Taipei)
- A few days before this match, the 33 year-old Lee Chong Wei complained about having too many days off in-between his matches. Well, that did not seem to affect him today as he put on a vintage performance against Chinese Taipei’s Chou Tien Chen. Displaying superior skill throughout the contest, the world’s top ranked player won the first game 21-9 and the second game 21-15, securing a 2-0 victory. Lee moves on to the semifinal where he will face his Chinese nemesis, Lin Dan, in a monumental clash.
Lin Dan (China) vs. Srikanth Kidambi (India)
- After an impressive showing by his Malaysian adversary in the first quarterfinal match of the day, one might have thought Lin Dan would have wanted to make a statement as well. However, after crushing Kidambi 21-6 in the first game, it was anything but that for Lin. Kidambi, putting on a skillful and valiant display, impressively beat Lin 21-11 in game two and headed into the third and deciding game with all of the momentum. In a back and forth third game, the 11th ranked player in the world stayed step-for-step with his Lin, but his Chinese opponent prevailed in the end. Lin Dan will have to be much better than he was today as he takes on the man who has beaten for the gold medal in the last two Olympics: Malaysia’s Lee Chong Wei.
