Pilots lose to Bananas 9-7, fall short of Coastal Plain League title

HAMPTON (WAVY) – Devin Hemmerich (Norfolk State University) ran into trouble through the first two innings, and the Peninsula Pilots fell into a hole they couldn’t quite dig themselves out of. The Pilots’ season, arguably the best in Coastal Plain League history, ends with a 9-7 loss to the Savannah Bananas in a decisive game three of the Pettit Cup championship series.

The Bananas, meanwhile, celebrate a title after their first season in the Coastal Plain League.

The Pilots committed three errors over the first two innings, and allowed six runs, three of which came off a 3-run home run by Jameson Hannah. Rylan Bannon followed that up with a solo home run out of left field.

The Pilots fought their way back to make it a one-run game in the eighth inning, but could not manage to get any closer.
