Local volunteers help flood victims in Louisiana

PORTSMOUTH, Va (WAVY) — Local disaster relief workers from Operation Blessing are in Louisiana.

Some volunteers spent the day in Livingston Parish working at the home of an elderly, disabled couple who had five feet of water inside their home.

Workers ripped out soaked carpeting and drywall.

“Our focus right now is to help these homeowners get their homes dried out so we don’t have any major issues with mold getting
in these homes,” said Operation Blessing’s Director of U.S. Disaster Relief, Dan Moore.

Moore spent two and a half years in Louisiana after hurricane Katrina and said this is reminiscent. He said that Operation Blessing currently has an advanced team of six on the ground helping families, as well as a mobile kitchen and shower trailer so people can take care of basic needs.
