CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — Democrats have chosen a 77th District nominee to represent the party in the November special election to fill the vacancy in the Virginia House of Delegates left by Del. Lionell Spruill, Sr.
Spruill left that post to run for Virginia’s 5th District Senate seat. Kenny Alexander left the Senate seat open when he was elected the Mayor of Norfolk.
Cliff Hayes, Jr. was chosen as the Democratic nominee for the 77th District House seat over LeOtis Williams Tuesday in a firehouse primary.
“Mr. Hayes has proven himself to be a stalwart public servant that will pledge unwavering support for his constituents,” said Democratic Party of Virginia Chairwoman Susan Swecker. “He will surely build upon the legacy of Delegate Spruill as a steadfast advocate for his district. We look forward to welcoming Cliff Hayes to the Virginia House of Delegates in November.”
