2 arrested in hit-and-run crash that killed moped rider in Nags Head

NAGS HEAD, N.C. (WAVY) — Police in Nags Head say they have arrested two men in connection with a hit-and-run accident that resulted in the death of a 59-year-old man.

Luis Reyes Perez Morales, 33, and 22-year-old Jorge Bartolon Perez were arrested and charged on Tuesday. Police say Morales was driving the car at the time of the crash.

Jene-Paul Lemieux, 59, was driving a moped on South Croatan Highway when a van — driven by Morales — hit him and fled the scene.

Lemieux was pronounced dead at the scene.

Morales is charged with felony hit-and-run with death or serious injury, misdemeanor death by vehicle and misdemeanor no operator’s license.

He was released from Dare County Detention Center on a $55,000 secured bond.

Perez is facing charges of accessory after the fact and resisting, delaying, and obstructing a public officer in connection with the incident.

Perez is still being held in Dare County on a $15,000 bond.
