Russia comes from behind to win team foil gold

Russia has defeated France 45-41 to win the gold medal in the men’s team foil competition.

The last time Russia won gold in the event was back at the 1996 Games.

France led the match for seven consecutive periods before Russia’s Artur Akhumatkhuzin outscored Jean-Paul Tony Helissey 10-3 to take a 40-38 lead in the eighth.

Alexey Cheremisinov closed out the match outscoring Erwan Le Pechoux 5-3.
