Portsmouth police: 2-year-old found unresponsive in hot vehicle

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — Detectives in Portsmouth are investigating a heat-related incident that caused a 2-year-old boy to be hospitalized.

Emergency dispatchers received a call at 11:50 a.m. Friday requesting assistance to the 10 block of Reid Street for a child who was found in a hot vehicle.

Police say the parents were taking the boy to a local hospital because he was unresponsive. Once the parents arrived at the hospital, the child was taken to the emergency room, where he was treated for heat-related illnesses. The child’s condition could not be stabilized. Police say he was then taken to Children’s Hospital of the Kings Daughters.

A spokesperson for CHKD tells 10 On Your Side the child is okay and has been sent home.

At this time, no charges have been filed. Police and Child Protective Services are still investigating the incident.
