Men’s volleyball prelims Day 4: Can U.S. maintain momentum?

Men's volleyball prelims Day 4: Can U.S. maintain momentum?

Even after taking down the top team in the world, the U.S. men’s volleyball team still has a lot of work to do on the final two days of the preliminary round.

If the Americans still have dreams of netting a medal in the final Olympics of Reid Priddy’s and David Lee’s careers, that journey will have to begin again Saturday afternoon.

Thursday’s big-time win over Brazil netted the Americans three points, but that only put them in a tie with Canada for the final quarterfinal qualifying position.

The U.S. will now have to take on France beginning at 4 p.m. ET Saturday afternoon and hope Canada falters along the way.

Saturday at 7:30 p.m. ET, Canada draws a Mexico squad that has lost nine of the 10 sets it has played in Rio.

On the fifth day of prelims, Team USA gets their shot at Mexico while Canada squares off with Italy, the current leader in Pool A.

Here is the rest of the action for Day 4:

8:30 a.m. ETIran vs. Egypt

10:30 a.m. Argentina vs. Cuba

2 p.m.Poland vs. Russia

9:30 p.m. – Brazil vs. Italy

The final day of women’s prelims kicks off Sunday morning at 8:30 a.m.

Men’s volleyball prelims concludes Monday, with quarterfinal action beginning Tuesday (women’s) and Wednesday (men’s).
