Man sentenced to 6 years for 2014 ODU rugby assault case

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A man was sentenced Friday to six years behind bars for assaulting three Old Dominion University rugby players in 2014.

Chris Slade pleaded guilty in 2015 to one count of malicious wounding and one count of malicious wounding while part of a mob.

Norfolk police said Slade was part of a mob that attacked three Old Dominion University rugby players at an off-campus home on  Melrose Parkway in November 2014.

3 ODU students hurt in assault near campus

The rugby team’s captain, Michael Rigual, was seriously injured and needed plates put in his jaw. A second student suffered a fractured eye socket and a third student was also treated for injuries.
