France handles Venezuela for second straight win

Six Frenchmen scored in double figures as Les Bleus move to 3-1 in Group A with a commanding 96-56 victory over Venezuela.

Venezuela looked like they may make it interesting for a quarter and a half, but just couldn’t hang with France’s depth as the game wore on.

The French bench loomed large as Joffrey Lauvergne scored a game-high 17 points and Thomas Huertel had 11, with eight assists and three rebounds. The pair’s combined total outscored the entirety of the Venezuelan reserves by six points.

Tony Parker scored an efficient 14 points on six-for-nine shooting and Nando de Colo tallied 10 points, four rebounds and four assists.

Gregory Echenique was the high scorer for Venezuela with 14 points.

After starting the tournament in dreadful fashion against Australia, the French look to have found their stroke in Rio. With the win, they clinched a spot in the quarterfinals.

Both teams will play their final preliminary round game on Sunday, with Venezuela playing Australia and the French looking to dethrone a suddenly vulnerable-looking U.S. team.
