SC high school football player dies after collapsing

LEXINGTON COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) — A River Bluff High School football player has died, after collapsing. The 14-year-old sophomore fell to the ground around 7 p.m. Wednesday evening. Two athletic trainers and a coach tried to revive him, but were unsuccessful.

The student’s name has not yet been released.

According to the school district, players took water breaks every 15 to 20 minutes, and water was available at all times during practice. Trainers are on site to monitor the athletes and make sure they take water breaks.
