VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — The man charged in the death of a Virginia Beach woman was arraigned by video Thursday afternoon.
Cornelius Beggs is charged with murder in connection with the death of 34-year-old Lysa Nichelle Story.
She was found dead inside of a home on Finespun Last in July.
According to court documents, on July 20, Story’s mother went to check on her daughter at the home. The paperwork said she found Story in the bathroom, wounded several times. Story’s car was missing and was later found two blocks away, according to court documents. Investigators removed two computers and a closet door from the home.
Story was physician’s assistant with the Sentara network for more than five years.
Sentara stated in July that Story was a “caring and conscientious professional” who was committed to “exceptional patient care.”
According to an obituary from Hale Funeral Home, her murder happened exactly six months after the birth of her daughter. It said Story “blessed and enriched the lives of her family and friends.”
Beggs, 31, was extradited from Utah to face the charge in this case.
Sgt. Steve Salas with the Utah Department of Public Safety said criminal interdiction team members arrested Beggs on July 24, after discovering that he was wanted in connection with a homicide. Utah Highway Patrol stopped Beggs for a license plate violation on Interstate 70 in Emery County and ran his name through a national database because of “suspicious circumstances,” Salas said. Beggs was driving his own vehicle and was cooperative, according to Salas.
Story was killed by trauma to the head and neck, according to the Medical Examiner’s office. The case has been ruled a homicide.
