Previewing men’s volleyball prelims Day 3: Can U.S. keep hope alive?

Can U.S. keep hope alive?

With two losses in two matches, the U.S. men’s volleyball team is on the verge of being eliminated from advancing to the quarterfinals.

Team USA enters play on Day 3 of the preliminaries Thursday with zero points, trailing France and Canada by three points for the final spot to advance.

Of course in order to do that, the Americans must now beat the best team in the world.

USA and Brazil are primed for a showdown Thursday night at 9:30 p.m. ET as the host country looks to keep its stranglehold atop Pool A.

If the U.S. squad can’t pick up at least a point, their chances at even getting into the ultimate tournament look slim.

Here is the rest of the action for Day 3 of men’s prelims:

8:30 a.m.Iran vs. Cuba

10:30 a.m.Russia vs. Egypt

2 p.m. Poland vs. Argentina

4 p.m.Canada vs. France

7:30 p.m.Italy vs. Mexico

The men’s quarterfinals begin Wednesday, Aug. 17 at 9 a.m.
