NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — A man was arrested in Newport News for allegedly biting his ex-girlfriend and her son during an argument.
On May 29, police responded to the 500 block of Blue Point Terrace for a reported assault. When officers arrived on scene, they met with a 31-year-old Newport News woman, who said that her ex-boyfriend, Wilbur Wharton, came over to her apartment to talk.
Police say they started arguing and the woman told Wharton to leave. She told police that Wharton then came at her and bit her on the arm. The woman’s 13-year-old son tried to restrain Wharton, who then bit the teen’s arm as well.
Wharton ran down to the first floor of the apartment and damaged the woman’s television with a fire extinguisher. The woman’s other son was at the front window looking outside when police say Wharton kicked the window, shattering the glass. One of the woman’s son, a 9-year-old, was hit by the glass and suffered some minor scratches on his hand.
Officers gave the woman a ride to the magistrate’s office to file charges against Wharton for three counts of assault and destruction of property.
On August 9, Wharton was taken into custody in the 5000 block of Mercury Boulevard. He also had outstanding warrants for failure to appear on a felony offense, disregarding or eluding law enforcement command, failure to report property damage in an accident, reckless driving and a traffic signal violation.
