Owner of pet grooming salon accused of animal cruelty

JAMES CITY COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) – The owner of a pet grooming salon is charged with animal cruelty.

Mironda Henning, owner of The Fuzzy Butt Stops Here, was accused of being abusive to a cockapoo dog, according to court documents.

The criminal complaint states that Henning was “jerking the dog around, roughly handling the dog and flipping it around” while grooming the pet on May 18.

James City County Police Spokeswoman Stephanie Williams told 10 On Your Side that a former employee took video of the incident. Henning was charged in July.

10 On Your Side went to the business, located on Strawberry Plains Road, Wednesday.

An employee quickly escorted our crew out of the salon, refusing to comment. 10 On Your Side later went to Henning’s listed home address, but no one responded to repeated knocks.

Her attorney, Jim Hannon, had no comment when reached over the phone.

“I’m shocked,” said customer Cindy Devore. “I’ve never had anything but good experiences myself.”

Customer Georgia Holtz was also surprised by the allegations, and stated that she has never had any complaints regarding service.

“I truly believe that whoever takes care of my dogs does a great job,” Holtz said. “They’ve never been anything but great.”

Investigators would not release the video that allegedly depicts the abuse. Police stated there is no record of any pets being injured at the salon. The salon’s Facebook page states that it offers “low stress grooming” where pets “experience a soothing and relaxing environment.”
