Mireia Belmonte of Spain took her first gold of the 2016 Rio Olympics in the 200m butterfly, racing to a time of 2:04.85 on Wednesday. Belmonte won a 400m individual medley bronze earlier in the week.

Australian Maddie Groves took the silver medal, missing the top spot on the podium by 0.03 seconds. Japan’s Natsumi Hoshi took the bronze in 2:05.20.

2015 Worlds silver medalist Cammile Adams, one of three female co-captains on this year’s Olympic team, finished fifth in the 2:05.90.

Adams’ road to Rio was a bit uncertain: At U.S. Olympic Trials in June, she was nearly disqualified in her preliminary heat for an illegal turn in her only race. She immediately appealed; the ruling was overturned and she progressed from the semifinals to the final and made her second Olympic team.

Fellow American Hali Flickinger, making her Olympic debut in Rio, finished seventh in 2:07.71.
