Portsmouth, Va. (WAVY) – From morning to night, WAVY TV 10 is once again the highest-rated news station in the Norfolk, Virginia market in the just-completed July 2016 Nielsen survey. Bolstered by several investigative pieces and the debut of its new state-of-the-art news set, WAVY TV 10 and FOX43, Media General’s NBC/FOX duopoly, won nearly every newscast and grew in nearly every time period over July 2015.
For the 25th consecutive year, WAVY News 10 Today was the region’s most-watched morning news from 4:30-7 a.m. WAVY’s 6.0 household rating at 6 a.m. beats every single newscast at every time of day on all its competitors. In addition, WAVY News 10 at 7 a.m. on sister station FOX43 beat its direct news competitor by nearly 30%.
WAVY News 10 won every early evening newscast from 4-6:30 p.m. and grew every single half hour over last July, while both news competitors declined in those same time periods. Posting a 4.3 household rating and 22% growth year-over-year, the 4 p.m. hour doubled the ratings of one competitor and beat the other by 48%. WAVY News 10 at 5 p.m. and WAVY News 10 at 5:30 p.m. grew 8% over last July, while WAVY News 10 at 6 p.m. delivered a 7.7 rating making it the highest-rated weekday newscast on any station at any time of day. WAVY News 10 at 10 p.m. on FOX43 remained the longtime news champion in its time period and more than doubled the ratings of its only head-to-head competitor.
WAVY News 10 at 11 p.m. remains the late news leader and nearly beat the competition combined. Weekend viewers also made WAVY and FOX43 their #1 choice.
