NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — Newport News Waterworks on Friday stated that adjustments to its water treatment have been successful.
The company said earlier in the week that they had been getting complaints about taste and odors in the water.
In response, the utility company changed its approach to water treatment and flushed the system. Officials blamed the heat for increased algae counts, which may be to blame.
The company insisted that the water was still safe to drink, and that the issue was an “aesthetic concern.”
Newport News Waterworks issued a statement on its Facebook Friday, saying they were not ready to call the recent water quality event over.
The company went on to state, however, that its treatment adjustments have been successful.
They say some customers may still continue to have some taste and odor issues.
