3 rescued from rip current in Va. Beach

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Three people caught in a rip current in Virginia Beach Thursday were rescued and taken to the hospital.

Tom Gill with Virginia Beach Life Saving Service called the situation a very close call.

Virginia Beach Dispatches told WAVY.com Thursday that three swimming were in distress near 50th Street. Dispatchers said the swimmers were out of the water being evaluated.

All three people were taken to the hospital, and Gill says one of the people rescued was unconscious. They have regained consciousness. Two of those rescued have serious injuries, but they are not life-threatening. The third person is being evaluated and doesn’t have major injuries.
