Smoking materials cause house fire in Virginia Beach

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) – Emergency crews responded to a house fire in the 2700 block of Royster Court, Saturday afternoon.

According to the Virginia Beach Fire Department, the emergency call came in at 1:10 p.m. Units arrived on the scene and found fire coming from the back of the home. Firefighters went into the home to check to see if the fire spread inside.

The fire under control within 15 minutes of arrival, according to the VBFD.

The residents home at the time made it out of the house safely even though they did not have working smoke detectors.

No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire was from discarded smoking materials and was ruled accidental.
