RICHMOND, Va. (WAVY) – Richmond International Airport police cited a man from Gloucester Point on state weapons charges Monday morning.

Transportation Security Administration (TSA) officers say he had a 9mm handgun in his backpack, loaded with 15 bullets, including one in the chamber. They made the discovery at an airport checkpoint.

The man told the officers he forgot he had the gun in his backpack. TSA’s advice to travelers is to look through their bags thoroughly before going to the airport, to make sure they are not packing illegal or prohibited items.
