HAMPTON ROADS, Va. (WAVY) — Thousands of people were without power in Virginia Beach Wednesday night.

Dominion Virginia Power says the lights went out at 10:36 p.m., affecting 8,500 customers in the Chimney Hill and Mount Trashmore areas.

Crews are working to pinpoint the cause of the outage.

As of 6:00 a.m. Thursday all customers that were affected had their power turned back on.

This was the second outage in Virginia Beach Wednesday.

Officials with Dominion tell 10 On Your Side the first outage started at 5:05 p.m. in the Lynnhaven and Green Run areas of Virginia Beach. Initially, the outage affected 13,000 customers. Power was eventually restored to everyone within about an hour and a half.

The cause was determined to be a breaker that failed, officials say.

In Williamsburg, more than 4,000 customers were initially without power. The outage began at 6:13 p.m. At last check, power had been restored to most of those customers.

Dominion said wires were down in Williamsburg, but it’s still not clear what caused the outage.
