Man injured in late-night shooting and attempted robbery in Hampton

HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — Hampton police are looking for three suspects after a man was shot during an attempted robbery late Tuesday night.

Investigators say it happened around 11:30 p.m. on West Kelly Avenue, just off North Mallory Street.

Three men reportedly walked up to the 36-year-old man and tried to rob him. Police say the man was shot multiple times after he and the suspects exchanged gunfire.

Paramedics took him to a local hospital with injuries originally listed as life-threatening. His injuries were later upgraded to non life-threatening.

Investigators recovered a handgun from the scene overnight. Police have not said if the gun recovered belonged to the victim or one of the suspects.

According to police, the suspects were last seen on West Kelly Avenue toward Old Buckroe Road.
