Hampton City Council approves ‘no wake’ flooding measure

HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — Hampton City Council approved a measure Wednesday that will make it illegal to create a wake with your car when it floods.

Last year, homeowners complained during flooding that fast cars were creating wakes that pushed water into their houses.

Hampton City Council wasn’t able to act because the law wasn’t allowed by the state. So, council put the issue on their state legislative priorities list and asked the Commonwealth for permission. Poquoson joined in with regional support and it passed the General Assembly. Governor Terry McAuliffe signed it and it went into effect July 1.
