Two teens from Merrimac Detention Center back in custody

YORK COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) — The York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office has located two teenagers from Merrimac Detention Center who ran off from their work site Wednesday.

The teens were apprehended nearby where they escaped. The Sheriff’s Office says the two teens ran from Erase the Need Center, located in the 700 block of Sentara Circle.

Gina Mingee, Merrimac Center Director, told 10 On Your Side that the pair was doing community service, but she did not specify where. She said the juveniles were supervised, but she could not provide information as to how they got away. That remains under investigation, according to Mingee.
