Car crashes into church on Warwick Blvd.

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) – A vehicle crashed into a church in Newport News during a Wednesday afternoon accident.

Police spokesman Lou Thurston confirmed the accident happened around 1:30 p.m. in the 13700 block of Warwick Boulevard, near Bland Boulevard. He said the vehicle was traveling northbound on Warwick when it went over the median, crashed through the front of The Potter’s House Christian Fellowship Church and almost drove all the way through it.

The driver went to the hospital with injuries considered not life-threatening. No one else was hurt.

The building was condemned. Images from the scene show quite a bit of damage to the structure.

Charges are pending for the driver. It’s not clear yet if alcohol or speed were a factor in the crash.
