HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — A tree fell on a home in the 400 block of Fort Worth Street in Hampton Sunday morning.
Emergency crews were dispatched to the area at 10:28 a.m. Sunday.
A tree smashed through the roof, the ceiling and part of a wall of the home, according to Hampton Fire and Rescue officials. No injuries were reported in the incident.
Victoria Tuttle has been displaced due to the home being ruled condemned. She has made arrangements to stay with family.
“I was sitting at the computer relaxing and I heard a loud crash,” said Tuttle. “The ceiling started caving in and the only thing I can fear was the sound from the trees and the leaves and the wind displacement.”
Officials believe the tree fell due to it’s rotting condition and weather from the last couple days. Tuttle was sitting one foot away from the crash.
“My neighbor ran over and had to hold me up because I was collapsing. I stopped and was paralyzed not knowing which direction to go,” said Tuttle.
Now, she has an emotional lesson to others.
“Anybody with old trees, get them checked out by a professional, make sure there is no damage and they are sturdy,” said Tuttle. “If there are branches hanging over on houses cut them down. I was lucky but there were people who would not be lucky, children could die from this, adults could die from this. Protect your families,” said Tuttle.
