Command Master Chief of USS Laboon relieved of duties

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — The Command Master Chief of guided-missile destroyer USS Laboon (DDG 58), based as Naval Station Norfolk, was relieved of his duties Monday by Commander, Destroyer Squadron 22.

Command Master Chief James Roberts was relieved by Capt. Derek Granger, based on findings from an investigation into allegations that Roberts fostered a toxic work environment and failed to follow Navy regulations and command instructions.

Roberts has served as Laboon’s Command Master Chief since September 26, 2014. He’s been temporarily reassigned to Commander, Naval Surface Force, Atlantic.

The new Command Master Chief has not been identified.
