Berkeley County, SC (WCBD) – The search continues for three inmates who escaped from the Dorchester County Jail early Friday morning.

The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office, Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office, Charleston County Sheriff’s Office and the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources assisted in a search Saturday for Donald Little, Michael Chaplin and Matthew Chaplin.

Saturday’s search took place in the woods between Charleston Southern University and the Hamlets neighborhood.

Authorities say the search began after a police chase involving the escapees in a stolen truck.

Officials say that pursuit ended near the power line embankment near mile marker 204.

As of late Saturday night, The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office suspended their search efforts for the night, but deputies were still actively patrolling the area.

The men broke out on Friday by pushing a window, and frame, out of the hole it sat in. Then they threw a blanket over the barbed wire, jumped the fence and left.

Eleven other inmates in their cell witnessed the escape, but did not leave.

The three escapees remain at large.

Anyone with any information should call their local law enforcement agency and report any information.
