ATLANTIC BEACH, N.C. (WITN) – For the second time in two weeks, a shark bite is reported off the North Carolina coast.

Atlantic Beach fire officials say an 11-year-old boy from the Atlantic Beach area was surfing just west of the Fort Macon State Park bathhouse when a shark bit him on the left foot.

The child reportedly had severe wounds and was taken to Carteret Health Care. Officials expect the child to survive.

The beach remained open after the shark encounter was reported around 2:33 p.m.

Back on June 11, 18-year-old Dillon Bowen was also bit by a shark at Atlantic Beach. He received 26 stitches in his right wrist.
