Norfolk community comes together to discuss violence prevention

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Residents, local clergy and officers from the Norfolk Police Department are walking the streets in the Barraud Park area to discuss solutions to stop violence and crime in their neighborhood.

The police department partnered with the Lighthouse Project, led by Pastor Aaron Wheeler, Sr., to put on the walk.

Pastor Wheeler says citizens in the community need to have a safe haven.

“Why the violence? Why the crime? Why the drugs?” Pastor Wheeler asked. “Where can the kids turn to for help?”

The group plans to walk throughout the community through the night until 10 a.m. Saturday.
