NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — A woman was caught trying to carry a loaded handgun onto a plane at the Newport News-Williamsburg Airport Sunday.

The TSA said Monday that security officers detected the gun inside a carry-on bag as she passed through an X-ray machine at a checkpoint. The gun was loaded with eight rounds, including one in the chamber.

Officers took possession of the gun, and cited her with a state weapons charge.

TSA says the woman was getting on a flight heading to Atlanta at the time.
