Motorcyclist killed in head-on collision in Mathews County

MATHEWS COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) — A 24-year-old Dutton, Virginia man was killed Saturday afternoon when he was thrown from his motorcycle in a head-on crash.

Virginia State Police say a motorcycle traveling west on Route 198 — near Windsor Road — crossed the center line going around a curve, and collided head-on with a Toyota Rav.

The crash happened around 12:30 p.m. on June 18.

The Toyota ran off the road when it swerved in an attempt to avoid the motorcycle.

The motorcyclist, 24-year-old David M. Burruss, was thrown from the bike and died at the scene. Police say he was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

Police say 54-year-old Randall W. Edwards, driver of the Toyota, was wearing a seat belt and was not injured in the crash.

Virginia State Police are continuing to investigate the accident.
