Woman dies after crash on Granby Street

NORFOLK, Va.(WAVY) — Police are investigating a fatal two-car crash that happened Monday afternoon on Granby Street near Naval Station Norfolk.

According to police, the accident involved a Hyundai and a Chrysler. It happened just before 2:00 p.m. in the 8100 block of Granby Street, which is near Forest Lawn Cemetery.

Police say a preliminary investigation revealed that the driver of the Chrysler was heading southbound on Granby and tried to make a left turn. The Hyundai was traveling northbound and hit the Chrysler as the driver attempted to turn.

The driver of the Hyundai was not injured. Two women in the Chrysler were taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. The driver suffered serious injuries. The passenger later died at the hospital. Police have not yet released the victim’s identity.

Norfolk police are still investigating the crash. Their findings will be turned over to the Commonwealth Attorney’s office for review.

The crash closed the I-64 westbound ramp to Granby Street, but the road is now back open.
