NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) – Newport News Shipbuilding has announced that they have turned around the developing Gerald R. Ford at Pier Three on Saturday.

Shipbuilders, sailors and five tugboat crews worked together for about two hours to turn the aircraft carrier 180 degrees. This process moves the ship another step closer to delivery.

The ship’s stern now faces the James River, which facilitates final testing of ship’s systems.
