HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — Police are investigating a double shooting Thursday afternoon in the 4100 block of Hazelwood Road.
Dispatchers received multiple calls about the incident at 4:01 p.m. When officers arrived on scene, they found two men suffering from gunshot wounds.
Both men were transported to the local hospitals to be treated for their injuries. One of the men suffered what appears to be non life-threatening injuries, while the other victim’s injuries are possibly life-threatening, police say.
Police say preliminary investigation reveals a group of people that knew each other got into an altercation, during which multiple guns were displayed. There was then an exchange of gunfire, which led to the two men being shot.
The incident appears to be an isolated incident, police say, and is not a random act of violence. The exact motive and circumstances surrounding the double shooting are still not clear, according to police.
Police are still investigating.
Authorities in Hampton responded to three separate shootings from Wednesday evening through the early morning hours of Thursday. Police say the shootings do not appear to be connected.
Anyone with information on any of these shootings is asked to call the Hampton Police Division at 757-727-6111 or the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
