NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Police say a woman was killed in a three-vehicle crash Thursday afternoon on E. Little Creek Road in the Wards Corner area of Norfolk.
Police say the crash involved a Norfolk school bus, a Nissan Sentra and a Lexus. No students were on the school bus at the time of the crash.
According to police, the Lexus was turning from the Interstate 564 off-ramp onto E. Little Creek Road and hit the bus and the Nissan, which were both heading west on E. Little Creek.
The woman driving the Lexus was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.
Witnesses tell WAVY.com they attempted to help the woman, whose Lexus was pinned under the bus. One man said she was wearing a military uniform, and he could still feel a pulse on her at one point.
The woman’s identity has not yet been released. Police are working to notify her family.
The drivers of the school bus and the Nissan were not injured. A passenger in the Nissan was transported to a nearby hospital to be treated for non life-threatening injuries.
Renatta Bradley was sitting at a light waiting to drive east on E. Little Creek when the accident happened.
“When we looked over, the bus was coming over in our lane, and it was over the median,” Bradley explained. “So we had to immediately move to the right. As I’m moving, all the glass from all three cars shattered, and it was like a bunch of glitter.”
Bradley said her windows were open and shattered glass ended up in her car. She got herself checked out at the hospital as a precaution.
“Thank God, I had a better outcome,” Bradley said. “But, I feel really bad because someone lost their life.”
Little Creek Road was shut down in both directions for several hours. It has since reopened.
