Portsmouth Police: 16-year-old girl shot in face expected to be OK

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — Police say a 16-year-old was shot Tuesday night in Portsmouth.

Around 9:23 p.m. on Tuesday, dispatchers received a call requesting medical help for a girl who had a gunshot wound in the 30 block of Swanson Parkway. When police arrived, they found the teen suffering from a non life-threatening injury to her face.

The teen girl told police she was hit by the gunfire while walking in the area after hearing a ‘pop’ sound. She was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

At this time, police are not sure of a motive and do not have any suspect information in the case. Authorities are still investigating.
