Admirals introduce Rod Aldoff as new head coach

NORFOLK (WAVY) — The Admirals formally introduced Rod Aldoff as its new head coach at a press conference at Norfolk Scope on Tuesday morning.

Aldoff, 45, makes his ECHL head coaching debut after spending the past three season seasons at the helm of the Pensacola Ice Flyers of the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL).  In three seasons Aldoff captured two SPHL Championships as well as the 2013-14 Coach of the Year.  On January 1, 2016 he became the franchise’s winningest coach.

“It’s exciting,” Aldoff told the Sportswrap. “Obviously just getting to this level is a great honor, but we’re going to go full-bore ahead and put a winner on the ice for sure.”

Aldoff had a 15-year professional playing career as a defenseman in both North America and Europe including parts of five seasons skating in the ECHL.

“I remember playing here back in the day,” Aldoff said. They had some great teams in the past and I just want to put a winner on the ice and be consistent and win a championship.”
