‘Suggestive’ sculpture has small Iowa town talking

AMES, IA (WAVY) – Some people in an Iowa city want a sculpture removed, saying its pose is inappropriate.

Officials in the city of Ames, just north of Des Moines, say they received several calls and emails from residents complaining that the sculpture is not family friendly and shouldn’t be in public.

The artist says the statue is a woman doing a yoga pose. Others say it looks more like a naked lady with her legs apart.

“As a sculptor, I don’t see nakedness. I just see sort of shape,” explained the sculptor, Kimber Fiebiger.

Councilmembers say when the artist submitted the project, she only sent in pictures of the back of the statue, none showing the front. They say they’ll keep it where it is for now. It’s on loan from Minneapolis.
