Police investigating after shots fired into car in Newport News

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — Police say no one was hit by gunfire after a shooting on Oak Avenue in Newport News Thursday night.

The incident happened just before 9:30 p.m. in the area of 32nd Street and Oak Avenue.

Though dispatchers believed the victim was originally injured by gunfire, the victim was actually only cut by broken glass.

The 41-year-old Newport News man was sitting in his car when an unknown suspect fired a gun, striking the car windows. As a result, the driver was struck by flying glass.
