CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — Chesapeake police say they chased two suspects that wound up crashing overnight in Norfolk.

Investigators say it started around 1:15 a.m. Thursday, when officers tried to stop a car with altered tags at the intersection of Providence Road and Georgetown Boulevard. Police say the vehicle would not stop.

The suspects then drove down Campostella Road and onto Interstate 264.

Officers chased the suspect into the city of Norfolk — before the driver lost control and crashed on the Campostella Road exit ramp.

Officers arrested the driver, 48-year-old Michael Johnson, and charged him with third offense suspended license, eluding, fictitious registration, possession of cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The passenger of the car, 32-year-old Antoine Smith, was also arrested. He has been charged with drunk in public.

Johnson and Smith were treated and released from the hospital, before being taken to Chesapeake City Jail.
