Husband and wife killed in Bertie County, son arrested

Police tracked him down in Oklahoma.

BERTIE COUNTY, N.C. (WAVY) – The son of a couple killed in Bertie County, North Carolina this week was arrested in Oklahoma.

The Vinita Police Department tracked down 23-year-old Christopher Rouson on Thursday, around 3 a.m. and charged him with the murders of his father and stepmother.

The bodies of James and Anna Rouson were discovered in their home on Sutton Road Tuesday after James’ co-workers at Edenton’s East Coast Equipment called police when he didn’t show up to work.

Through the investigation, Christopher Rouson was developed as a suspect and warrants for his arrest were issued Wednesday.

Several agencies are involved in this investigation: Bertie County Sheriff’s Office, the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, FBI’s Tulsa Oklahoma Field Office, the NC SBI Fugitive and Missing Person Task Force and the Vinita Police Department.

There have been five homicides in the rural county since April 5.
