CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — A Chesapeake Fire lieutenant has been arrested and charged with solicitation of a minor and indecent liberties with a minor.

49-year-old Thomas Almberg, of the 3500 block of Bacon Court in Virginia Beach, was arrested on May 25 for 10 counts of using a communication device to solicit a minor and two counts of indecent liberties with a minor.

The victim is reportedly a 16-year-old girl who lives out of state. Her parents discovered inappropriate communication and reported it to their local police, who in turn reached out to Chesapeake Police.

The Chesapeake Police Department says the investigation began in April. They don’t believe Almberg and the victim ever met, but solely communicated via phone and computer.

Heath Covey with the City of Chesapeake confirmed to WAVY.com that Almberg is a Lieutenant with the Chesapeake Fire Department. He’s been with the fire department for 17 years.

He is currently on leave from the fire department, but Covey would not say whether or not it is paid leave.

Almberg is currently being held in jail without bond. He was arraigned on May 26 and he is scheduled to back in court August 23.
