Suspect arrested in fatal King Street shooting

HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — Police have arrested a man in connection to a fatal shooting Wednesday night in Hampton.

The victim, who police have identified as 19-year-old Jonathan Powers, died from his injuries early Thursday morning.

Authorities say they have arrested 18-year-old Jahsean Curry, of Hampton, and charged him with murder and use of a firearm in commission of a felony.

Dispatchers received multiple calls at 8:45 p.m. Wednesday reporting a shooting at the intersection of North King Street and Huffman Drive.

When officers arrived on scene, they found Powers lying near the roadway in the 800 block of North King Street, near Kempton Street, suffering from a gunshot wound.

Powers was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. Hampton police say he died at 1:23 a.m. Thursday.

The case is classified as a homicide investigation.

Curry is being held at Hampton City Jail.
