USS Wainwright Mobile Museum to make appearance at Nauticus

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — The USS Wainwright (DLG/CG28) Mobile Museum will be parked at Nauticus and open to the public for tours on Wednesday for one day only.

The Wainwright was deployed during the Vietnam War, served as part of NATO forces and was involved in the action in the Persian Gulf in 1988.

In 2002, the Wainwright was destroyed and sunk in Operation SinkEx 02.

Former crew member removed artifacts before her destruction. A portion of them are on display in the museum, along with descriptive panels and a map showing her world travels.

Names of those who served aboard the USS Wainwright are included on the roster of shipmates.

The public is welcome and there is no charge for tours, though donations to maintain the museum are welcome. The museum will be at the Nauticus front circle from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
