YORK COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) — Virginia State Police have identified the victim of a fatal crash on Interstate 64 east at the Busch Gardens exit Friday afternoon.
Police say the accident happened around 2:24 p.m.
According to police, a 1998 Ford Explorer was traveling eastbound on I-64, when the driver, who was identified as Timmy N. Clary, ran off the road, over corrected and lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle struck a guardrail and overturned.
Clary was ejected from the vehicle. He was transported to Riverside Hospital with life-threatening injuries and later died.
Clary was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.
Police say speed played a factor in the crash. It’s unclear at this time if alcohol was a factor.
