Corolla Greenway Extension now open

CURRITUCK COUNTY, N.C. (WAVY) — A three-mile, multi-use path in Corolla is now officials open for use.

Phase III of the Corolla Greenway runs from the Ocean Sands area to the Monteray Shopping Plaza at Albacore Street.

Phase III of the Greenway was a priority project in the Connecting Corolla Bike, Pedestrian, Access & Wayfinding Plan, which was adopted by the Currituck County Board of Commissioners in October 2013. Phases I and II were completed in 2011 and are located north of Historic Corolla Park.

Future phases and amenities will also be added.

Because of the high volume of pedestrians, joggers and cyclists, golf carts, scooters and mopeds will not be allowed.

Officials ask that you use caution on the path, particularly at community intersections and at the Ocean Sands Wastewater Treatment Plant project, where trucks accessing the plant will be crossing the path.
