PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — A 13-year-old boy walked into the emergency room of Maryview Hospital with a gunshot wound Monday evening.
Emergency dispatchers received the call at 5:50 p.m.
Police say the juvenile victim was shot in the shoulder, and sustained a non life-threatening injury. The victim indicated to officers he was hit by gunfire near Hickory Street, and was driven to the hospital for treatment.
Misty Holley with Portsmouth Police told WAVY on Monday they are also currently investigating after shots were fired near Phillip Avenue and Hickory Street. Holley could not confirm Monday whether the two incidents were related.
On Tuesday, police noted that officers located the crime scene in the 2500 block of Hickory Street. Detectives do not have a motive for the shooting or suspect information.
