ISLE OF WIGHT, Va. (WAVY) — An Isle of Wight County pastor and City of Franklin employee is facing distribution of child pornography charges after being arrested by authorities.

An investigation led authorities to seek eight felony warrants for distribution of child pornography against 48-year-old Christopher Alan Hogge.

“At this time, there is no indication that he was manufacturing any type of child pornography,” said Lt. Tommy Potter. “Just that he was downloading it, possessing it, and distributing it to other people through various web networks.”

According to Potter, investigators received a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children that an online account in Isle of Wight had accessed an online social media account that stored images depicting child pornography.

Potter says search warrants are being executed at several different locations in connection with this case. He said investigators recovered more than 3,000 pornographic videos and photos and said eight of them are definitely of minors. At this point, investigators do not believe that any of the children are from the Hampton Roads area.

Items seized through a search warrant include:

  • seven laptops, two iPads, two tablets, seven cell phones, an iPod, a Palm Pilot, four flash drives, two memory cards, an Amazon Fire Stick, a Sandisk Adapter, three hard drives, 109 CDs/DVDs, a Belkin adapter, a camera, a modem, two routers, a mobile iPad dock, two VHS tapes, and a book pad containing a keyboard, mints, pens, cables and papers.

A digital voice recorder was also recovered when a second search warrant was served.

Hogge is the pastor at Battery Park Baptist Church, and has been with the church since 2001. According to the City of Franklin website, Hogge is the director of Social Services for the city. Potter brought up that Hogge regularly works with children in his positions in the community.

“He would naturally act with kids every day, and that’s one of our main concerns,” said Potter.

Residents living around Battery Park Baptist Church said they are heartbroken and stunned by the news of Hogge’s arrest. Many also didn’t want to comment on his arrest given how small the Battery Park community is.

Hogge is being held at the Western Tidewater Regional Jail without bond.
